It is hard to believe the inaugural publication of Trauma Surgery &amp; Acute Care Open (TSACO) was 3 years ago. I assumed leadership as editor not quite knowing how things would go, or even what open access publishing was really all about. It certainly was not clear to me, or to the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma leadership, how this relatively new form of academic publishing would take hold, since our potential readership was accustomed to traditional subscription print publication. Crossing the chasm of authors being responsible for article publishing charges seemed daunting.Let us first look at acceptance by investigators. Publication has progressed nicely during the past 3 years, with a 159% increase in submitted articles from 2016 to 2018, so it appears my early concerns regarding acceptance of open access has been largely alleviated.
